THE BOYS ARE BACK IN TOWN!

Wycombe Town FC progressed to the next round of the Combination Challenge Cup with a good win over a much improved and well organised Beaconsfield Legion team. Playing some slick passing football, Town dominated large parts of the game but Legion were dangerous on the break. One nil up with a goal from Ross Middleton, Legion defended resolutely and Town found it hard to break through a packed defence but it was Middleton again who added to his tally with another goal but Legion got a penalty late on to make it exciting.

Town played some great passing football to dominate the game but got lazy in the second half letting in two late goals. Billy Mason was on the scoresheet again getting two and Jonny Mason and Ross Middleton got one apiece. No game on the 14th November but back in Challenge Cup action on the 21st against Beaconsfield Legion at Holtspur.

Mr Martin Cyster who was a member of the High Wycombe Sunday Combination committee for over 30 years sadly passed away last week. Some of you will know him and remember all the good work he put into helping run the Combination league for in excess of 30 years. He was a good friend to Wycombe Town FC and even when he did retire from this committee you could still catch him down at Holtspur, Kingsmead, or the Rye watching all the teams and matches.
High Wycombe Sunday Combination Committee have asked that a minutes silence will be taken at all league/cup games involving teams from the Isaac Lords High Wycombe Sunday Combination this league this weekend.

Playing with pace and neat passing Town dominated the first half and went in at the break 3-1 up. The second half started badly for Town when Ross Middleton was dismissed for a second yellow but Towns ten men matched Beacons Bottom and went on to win 6-1. Billy Mason scored three, Jonny Mason, Mark Nugent and Scott Webb scored one each.

SUNDAY 10th OCOTOBER

Wycombe Town FC were way off form away to King George V on the Rye and dossapointingly lost 3-1.

SUNDAY 3rd OCTOBER

Wycombe Town FC played away to table topping Barn Club last Sunday and were robbed of victory by a 92 minute penalty to make the final score 1-1. Town played some great passing football and deserved their half time 1-0 scoreline spectacularly converted by Scott Webb. The first half was mainly even with both teams wasting chances but the second half Town held firm and should have converted several goal chances. The centre half pairing of Paul Shone and Vinny Cuva were outstanding at the back and Jonny Mason and Ross Middleton dominated the midfield with Scott Webb and Mark Nugent causing all sorts of problems for the Barn Club defence. A good all round performance which should lift Town up the table.

Jonny Mason and Ross Middleton drove the Midfield and Vinny Cuva, Guy Walters marshalled the defence. PROSPECTS LOOKING GOOD!

First week of the season is always a difficult time and with several players on holiday and with players injured, both the first and reserve teams had a new look with several players making their debuts and other players making a welcome return! Both teams lost 2-1 but should have come away with a victory, the first team went 1-0 up early on through Ross Middleton and then they missed a penalty. Town were dominating all the play but unfortunatly they then conceded to a keeper error for Chinnors first goal, Ross Middleton had a powerfull shot hit the post but the defence got caught late in the game on a breakaway conceeding an unstoppable shot. The Reserves went 1-0 down early on against FC Beaconsfield Reserves pulled back to 1-1 but conceed a late goal to lose 2-1.

Wycombe Town FC won the Cressex 6-a-side Tournament and also came runners up which was a fantastic result all round! with two players...Jonny and Billy Mason late coming back from Birmingham we only had eleven players to start with so the B team played the first two games with five players...but it all came good in the end and the A team played the B team in the final which was a fantastic effort from all the players involved!

WOODLEY SIX-A-SIDE TOURNAMENT

Wycombe Town travelled to Caversham early on Sunday morning for the Woodley 6-a-side Tournament to defend our title. Late injuries and illness ment we traveled with only 6 players, 2 subs would have made a difference, despite this we played argueably the best football in the competition, winning 4 out of 5 group stage matches but we failed to score enough goals, which this year ment extra points, so our progress was hampered and we dissapointedly exited in the quater finals...next year we will have to score more goals!!!
